RED BULL ROOKIES REVVING UP FOR THE MERDEKA MILLENNIUM ENDURANCE RACE

Red Bull Energy Drink has launched its all-female race team the “Red Bull Rookies” and their souped up DC2 for the upcoming Merdeka Millennium Endurance (MME) Race at the Borneo Baruk Club, Kuala Lumpur.

The Red Bull Rookies consist of four dynamic young ladies with a passion for motorsports; namely Leona Chin, Norbaizura Ruslan, Norlina Johor and Puteri Ayu Jasmin. The Red Bull Rookies will be racing their gold racecar in the nation’s most highly anticipated 12-hour endurance race at the Sepang F1 International Circuit this coming August.

Present at this auspicious event was En Mia Sharizman, Chief Executive for the Malaysian Motorsports Association who expressed his support towards the Red Bull Rookies and applauded Red Bull Malaysia’s effort in promoting motorsports for Malaysian women. “Red Bull Malaysia is clearly in tandem with our objectives in the motor sport arena,” said En Mia Sharizman. “This programme by Red Bull Malaysia is truly an extra ordinary initiative which is designed to enhance skills and develop talents among the ladies. I would like to take this opportunity to appreciate not the resources but also the effort put in by Red Bull Malaysia in finding, funding and nurturing these young rookies in preparation for one of the nations highly anticipated 12-hour endurance race which will be held at the Sepang F1 Circuit this coming August,” he added.

The spunky Red Bull Rookies were carefully selected from the Red Bull Female Driver Search 2007 which saw 600 hopefuls vying for a spot in the four-girl team. Since their successful selection, these lasses have been undergoing intensive training modules with Asia Advanced Driving Academy Sdn. Bhd. (AADA), learning the critical and essential aspects of racing - physical training, team dynamics, racing techniques and interpersonal skills.

Under the watchful eye and leadership of former MME podium finish racer Kenvin Low (chief trainer at AADA), the Red Bull Rookies have come a long way in honing their driving skills on the track.

“Personally, training the Red Bull Rookies has been an interesting experience as ladies have more patience compared to men. The training consists of various driving and racing techniques which should fully equip them for the challenge that await them at the MME,” said Low. “The Rookies came from diversified background but their passion, desire and discipline has made them a competitive team,” he added.

Red Bull’s long term commitment towards motorsports has been unparalleled. To keep the momentum going, the search for nationwide feisty new female drivers has begun with the launch of the Red Bull Female Driver Search ‘08. Females aged between 18 and 30, and with fervour for motorsports are strongly encouraged to log onto the official Red Bull Female Driver Search ‘08 website, www.redbull.com.my/rbfds, and follow the simple instructions to be part of this exciting programme.

Closing date for registration is the 17th of October 2008, following which roadshows will be conducted in key locations across the nation for the second screening process. At planned locations in Penang, Johor Bahru, Kota Bahru, Kuantan, Malacca, Ipoh and East Malaysia, candidates will be required to perform a series of practical tests in order to qualify them for the next round. This time around Red Bull has increased the number the roadshow locations, making it more accessible to all participants.

The top ten applicants who perform the best will then be shortlisted to undergo further sessions after which the Red Bull Rookies 2009 will be announced early next year.

The Red Bull Female Driver Search programme funds, nurtures and grooms young female talent for motorsports. Red Bull has formed and supported the only all-female racing teams competing in the MME for over 4 years.

The Red Bull Rookies team is in partnership by AADA, Oakley, SOL Helmets, Kenwood Walkie-Talkies, Motorsports Playground, Borneo Baruk Club and Yeos.
